Beth graduated from The Courtauld Institute of Art and Birkbeck University, and from early in her career until the artist’s death, she was curator of the David Bowie collection: an important and extensive collection, at the heart of which were works by many of the most important British artists of the 20th Century including Frank Auerbach, Peter Lanyon and Graham Sutherland, whilst it also encompassed Post-war and Contemporary art, Surrealism, Outsider art, African art and Memphis furniture. Greenacre oversaw the sale of selected work from the collection at Sotheby's in November 2016, which followed a series of exhibitions around the world that attracted more than 55,500 visitors.
Beth Greenacre is Curator and Director of The Sunderland Collection Art Programme that supports artists in creating work that responds to the private collection of exquisite cartographic objects from the 13th to the early 19th centuries.
Beth is also Chairperson of the Courtauld Alumini Board, an Advisory Board member of She CURAtes: The Residency and sits on the Executive Committee of The Association of Women in the Arts. She sits on the New Contemporaries 75th Anniversary Development Committee and the Whitechapel Gallery Art Icon 2025 Committee. In 2019 Beth was on the Steering Committee for the Future of the UK Contemporary Art Market report.
Beth was Visual Arts Advisor for South by South West (SXSW) London 2025, the first iteration of the celebrated South by South West festival to take place in the UK capital, which ran from 2 to 7 June in east London’s Shoreditch. Originally held in Austin, Texas, this new location integrated visual arts into the festival’s programme for the first time.
Beth was also curator of The AllBright, 2019 - 2023, a leading career network for women to connect, upskill and supercharge their careers through physical and digital spaces. Situated in the heart of Mayfair, The AllBright housed art by over 80 female identifying artists spanning 60 years of making.
Beth was co-director of ROKEBY, London, a commercial gallery, which from 2004 till 2017 exhibited over 77 artists, participated in some of the world’s leading art fairs and collaborated with institutions worldwide.
From 2000 Beth was Director of Bowieart, David Bowie's online platform to support young emerging artists at the beginning of their careers. Together they co-curated numerous exhibitions including Sound and Vision as part of Bowie’s Meltdown at the Royal Festival Hall in 2002 and Bloc at County Hall Gallery, 2005.
